Happy Friday, everyone! I have been saving the best for last this week and I’m so excited to share Andrea and Sean’s wedding with you now.
Sean and Andrea were living in Los Angeles, and I was in San Francisco as we began planning their fall Carmel Valley wedding. The words that “popped” from the beginning were organic, traditional, and FUN. Andrea and Sean love wine, live music, great food and everything about Carmel Valley. Their wedding weekend was relaxed, intimate and fun for everyone. The ceremony, at San Carlos Cathedral in Monterey, was a traditional Catholic ceremony. The chapel is gorgeous with it’s one long narrow hall, blue ceiling and warm Mexican tile. The reception site, Bernardus Lodge in Carmel Valley, was perfect for Sean and Andrea – luxurious without being stuffy, and with stunning grounds. I LOVE Bernardus and hope to stay there with my husband sometime next year. A resolution!
Andrea and Sean decided on plum and ivory for their wedding palette, with accents of rich brown, burgundy and wild greenery. The bridal bouquets and centerpieces had a lush, organic feel; with twisting branches, berries, and plants including kale. The real centerpiece, though, was Andrea herself. She wore a Watters gown that she had altered extensively to create her dream dress. She added cap sleeves, a detachable shrug for the ceremony, and hemmed the dress to a perfectly pretty, slightly-longer-than-tea-length hem. It was my job to make sure the rest of the wedding was just as divine as the dress!
At the reception, guests mingled on one of Bernardus’ large green lawns during the cocktail hour. Andrea and Sean specifically requested a purple cocktail using tequila, so a delicious pomegranate margarita served in a martini glass kept everyone happy until the dinner reception. Live Spanish guitar music filled the air and the wine bar reminded guests what Carmel Valley is all about: fantastic wine in a beautiful location. At the chime of a bell, guests made their way up to the ballroom and found their escort card in a rustic wine crate filled with soft wheat-grass. These same wine crates would later display the custom matchbooks we designed for guests to take as favors. Personalized wine bottle labels (from Etsy) numbered the tables continuing the wine valley theme. Andrea and Sean wanted a simple and classic feel for the cake tower which was filled with 3 kinds of delicious cupcakes, and the custom topper (also from Etsy) added just enough personality and whimsy.
After dinner, guests danced the night away to an amazing live band. In honor of Andrea’s Portuguese heritage, the couple danced to a money dance. It’s a tradition Andrea’s tias wouldn’t let her escape! Right after cutting the cake, we brought out a milk and cereal bar for guests to enjoy as a late night treat. Sean’s favorite snack is cereal and it was one of his only “must-haves” for the wedding! I loved working with Sean and Andrea to throw an incredible party…full of their favorites – great food, amazing wine, fun music and gorgeous flowers. It was a stylish and unique event, a true reflection of the bride and groom and their perfect vision for the day!
